Attorney Lauren Wood, a partner of The Schurmer Firm, was published in Advocate Magazine. Her piece explained the basics of Expedited Jury Trials and the benefits of the practice.

Advocate Magazine is a publication that is owned by the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA). The magazine is peer-reviewed by plaintiff attorneys and publishes information about trial litigation and other legal topics.

In her piece for Advocate Magazine, Attorney Wood explored multiple elements of Expedited Jury Trials, including topics such as “What are the benefits of an EJT?” and “Important rules for EJTs.” An Expedited Jury Trial is a type of process in which a case can be resolved within one day in court. This is done through rule changes and alternative processes, such as allowing witnesses to testify via a written declaration. Attorney Wood identified the EJT as a “low-cost trial option” for attorneys who are presenting smaller, lower-value claims — cases that are presented in an Expedited Jury Trial will not require the payment of legal fees that are as expensive as a typical trial. Through an EJT, plaintiffs can avoid a potentially costly trial while still being able to dispute undervalued insurance claims.
